Tottenham absolutely want to sign ‘super’ midfielder in swap deal this summer

Swap deals appear to be all the rage in the Premier League this summer as clubs look to skate around Profit and Sustainability rules.

Indeed, Aston Villa have done a couple of swap deals already this summer with Douglas Luiz moving to Juventus in exchange for a couple of players, while the Ian Maatsen and Omari Kellyman moves appear to have been linked.

Tottenham have also done a swap deal this summer as Archie Gray and Joe Rodon swapped places at Spurs and Leeds respectively.

A swap deal including Giovani Lo Celso and Jacob Ramsey has been discussed, but, as of late, that one has gone quiet.

However, speaking on the Claret and Blue Podcast, John Townley has claimed that Spurs’ interest in Ramsey is still very much alive and this swap deal is one they would like to do.

Tottenham still interested in Jacob Ramsey swap deal

Townley shared what he knows about the ‘super’ midfielder.

“Spurs definitely want him and they are using Lo Celso as a carrot because Emery really likes Lo Celso and he’s a good player,” Townley said.

“Spurs are using that as an incentive. I don’t see how Lo Celso ends up in the team. I think it would be a dreadul deal because you don’t have to sell Ramsey.

“Can I see Ramsey leaving for Tottenham? At the moment I think it’s unlikely. Tottenham would have to put down huge money. Johan Lange is a big fan of Jacob Ramsey and he knows Villa inside out. Can I see this going away? Probably not. I don’t think Lange will be deterred even though it has gone quiet since last month when it was first spoken about.”

How Giovani Lo Celso performed under Unai Emery

Giovani Lo Celso has played under Unai Emery before, and it’s fair to say that this relationship was positive last time around.

Lo Celso was a key player for Villarreal under Emery, helping The Yellow Submarine reach the Champions League semi-finals.

If Lo Celso were to work under Emery again, he could rediscover his best form, but, whether or not Villa feel that is an equal trade-off for Ramsey is another question entirely.
