Torreira could be trump card for Arsenal in Dusan Vlahovic race

According to reports from over the weekend, Arsenal have reentered the race to sign Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina this summer.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Gunners were monitoring the 21-year-old, who has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs in this window.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Tottenham are in contact with his agents.

Interestingly, Di Marzio suggested that his Premier League admirers have an advantage over the other sides in the running.

La Viola want £51 million for Vlahovic. And that takes him out of the price range for many – except the English teams.

It will be fascinating therefore, to see how the coming weeks play out. But perhaps Arsenal have reason to believe that they could have a potential trump card.

It was reported by Corriere dello Sport in late July that Fiorentina have reignited their interest in Lucas Torreira.

As things stand, it is hard to see Torreira playing for Arsenal again. He spent last year out on loan after failing to force his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

His involvement at the Copa America scuppered any hopes of featuring in pre-season.

And with Arsenal working to move players on, it would be little surprise to see the Uruguayan leave before the window shuts.

Could Arsenal use Torreira to boost hopes of move for Vlahovic?

Torreira earns £75,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. So it would be a boost for Arsenal to find him a new home.

And if Florence is an option, Arsenal must see whether there is scope for a player-plus-cash move for Vlahovic.

Obviously, the two sides would still need to agree on the respective valuations of the two players. But it does appear that swaps are appealing to a lot of teams given the current climate.

Torreira’s time at Arsenal looks to be up. So perhaps the best thing he can now do for the Gunners is help them land a marquee target.
