Reported Newcastle United target Benjamin Sesko has received plaudits from Fabrizio Romano after a ‘top performance’ for his country.

Sesko put in a ‘Man of the Match’ display for Slovenia against Norway in the Nations League yesterday as he grabbed the winning goal.

Reports suggested that the ‘incredible’ RB Salzburg starlet had caught the eye of Newcastle over the summer as Howe looked to bolster his attacking options.

But Sesko completed a switch to RB Leipzig instead, in a deal that sees him remain in Salzburg until next summer (The Athletic).

And the talented striker has been putting in some eye-catching displays for club and country this season.

Romano blown away by Sesko

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano was blown away by Sesko’s display for Norway yesterday.

Slovenia went a goal behind after a superb finish from Manchester City striker Erling Haaland in the 47th minute.

But Sesko stepped up in the last half an hour of the game as he set up Andraz Sporar for the equaliser.

The 19-year-old grabbed the winner and Romano labelled the display as a ‘top performance’.

The transfer insider also claims that Premier League clubs remain interested in Sesko for the ‘future’.

Newcastle fans will not be too disappointed about missing out on Sesko after bringing in Alexander Isak this summer.

The Swedish international has got off to an impressive start at St James’ Park and looks set to spearhead Newcastle’s attack for years to come.

But with Romano claiming that Premier League sides could be interested in the player in the future, Sesko may be a target that Howe decides to revisit in the future.

The Slovenian forward has now bagged four goals in nine appearances in the Austrian league this season and looks to have a big future ahead of him.
