Tony Watt has defended under-fire Celtic attacker Lewis Morgan on Twitter after the winger netted Celtic’s fourth goal in their superb 4-1 win over AIK Stockholm in Sweden on Thursday night.
Morgan, 22, has been in and around the first team this season, making 10 appearances in all competitions after returning from a decent loan spell at Sunderland last season. But there have been critics of the Scotland international.
Indeed, the majority of Celtic fans cannot understand why Scotland international Morgan is being given game time while the likes of Maryan Shved and Scott Sinclair continue to be left out of the Celtic side by Neil Lennon.
It has seen fans criticise Morgan despite showing in glimpses that he is more than capable of impressing in green and white. He headed in his first goal for Celtic in his 23rd appearance, and ex-Celtic striker Watt applauded Morgan for his goal.
TBR’s view – Morgan deserves a chance in a Celtic shirt
You can tell that Morgan is somewhat of a confidence player and that goal will do him the world of good. Continuing to bang them in, as well as create goals for the Scottish champions, will see fans complete a u-turn on Morgan.
Whether Morgan can have a similar effect on the Celtic side to Sinclair, or match the glimpses of quality seen from Shved remains to be seen. But the more game time he gets, and the more confidence he develops, he has every chance.
