Tony Cascarino has told The Times that he thinks Japhet Tanganga will be Spurs’ breakthrough star this season, claiming that he is a defender in the mould of Sol Campbell.
Tanganga has endured a tricky time in North London over the last year. He has previously struggled with injuries.

In fact, he only managed to make six appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham during the previous campaign.
When he has played, he has looked extremely impressive. And of course, he is capable of playing in a couple of roles across the backline.

So when asked to name who Tottenham’s breakthrough star will be this coming term, Cascarino opted for the academy graduate. He also made an interesting comparison.
“Japhet Tanganga will have a role to play as a full back-cum-centre back in a back five. He is a defender in the mould of Sol Campbell,” he told The Times.
Will Tanganga even spend this season in North London?
Cascarino is confident that Tanganga will enjoy a positive season. But, based on recent reports, it would appear that there is a chance that he may not even be at Spurs over the next year.
He has been linked with a loan move this summer. In fact, it was reported last week that Tottenham had accepted an offer for Galatasaray.
The Athletic noted that Tanganga was still yet to make a decision on the potential move.
Meanwhile, Football London suggested that Spurs would actually prefer to loan him to a British club.
Much may depend on how much Nuno Espirito Santo is planning to use him.
The good news is his versatility boosts his chances of featuring regularly. And if he can build on the form he has shown previously, it should come as no surprise if he does indeed end up staying put.
