Title winners reportedly prepare £30m bid for player reportedly eyed by Leeds

An excellent summer for Matheus Cunha could be about to get even better in the next few days. The Brazilian, who won Gold at the Tokyo Olympics, is set to be the subject of a £30million offer from Atletico – meeting Hertha Berlin’s asking price. But it sees Leeds miss out on Cunha this summer.

Cunha, 22, has caught the eye after producing an impressive 16 goal involvements in 28 games for Hertha last season. Scoring eight, he laid on eight assists. The Brazil international can play anywhere across the front three and boasts the creativity to play as a 10. He wears Hertha’s no.10.

At the Olympics, Cunha was used as a striker and he scored three goals in five games as Brazil beat Spain in the final to win Gold. Brazilian outlet UOL said earlier this summer that Bielsa, personally, wanted Cunha at Elland Road. However, Leeds have been left trailing in the transfer market.

Atletico have stolen a march. Kicker say Atletico are about to meet Hertha’s asking price, as they prepare an offer worth £30million. Hertha want £25.75million for Cunha – and Atletico are willing to pay that. To sweeten a deal, Atletico are also including £4.25million in add-ons.

Cunha to Atletico: Expensive, but would have improved Leeds

Following Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Manchester United, there has understandably been some panic among Leeds supporters. The club have looked to diffuse that by handing Patrick Bamford a new contract until the summer of 2026. But really, new signings will bring back the optimism.

Cunha would have certainly provided that. However, Leeds are not looking to spend as much as they did in their first summer in the Premier League. They have already spent around £30million on Junior Firpo, Jack Harrison and Kristoffer Klaesson. A shame, but Cunha is certainly expensive.
