'That's the gamble': Sky Sports specialist says 'fantastic' player has put it all on the line by joining Tottenham
Sky Sports’ South American football expert, Tim Vickery, has suggested that Richarlison has taken a bit of a gamble in joining Tottenham this summer.
The Brazilian striker has made a big money move to Spurs from Everton in what is one of the most eye-catching transfers of the entire summer. ENIC and Daniel Levy have delivered the funds for Antonio Conte and, so far, Fabio Paratici is delivering the players.
However, while Richarlison’s signing was indeed an eye-catcher, Sky’s Vickery has hinted Richarlison is putting things on the line a tad by moving to Tottenham, and believes he might even have to wait for his chance.
“Both Arsenal and Spurs are buying very, very fine players. Richarlison is the form horse but, you would imagine, Gabriel Jesus is the one who – certainly from the start of the season – is guaranteed more game time,” Vickery told SSN.
“Richarlison may have to be patient. He benefits from five substitutions, but that’s the gamble he’s taken. It’s fascinating from a Tottenham point of view to see them doing what they didn’t do with Mauricio Pochettino, where they didn’t strengthen.”
After starring for Everton in the run-in last season, the ‘fantastic‘ Richarlison might well have to settle for playing second fiddle thanks to Kane and co.
TBR’s View: Richarlison Can Shine For Tottenham
There will indeed be a settling in period you feel for Richarlison, but there is no doubting that the Brazilian will have a big impact on Tottenham this season.
Yes, as Vickery says, he might have to wait a bit for his big chances. But Spurs haven’t spent £60m on a player for them to not contribute, and in a World Cup year, Richarlison won’t be in the mood for sitting around.
Make no mistake, Richarlison will help Tottenham massively and his time will come this season.
