Aston Villa are set to be at the centre of a few big stories heading into transfer deadline day.
Emi Martinez could be headed to Manchester United in a move that Wayne Rooney has already backed, while Jadon Sancho is headed to Villa Park.
Harvey Elliott has also been linked to Aston Villa, and according to Tim Sherwood, speaking on Sky Sports News (1/9/25 11:20AM), this could be another inspired addition to Unai Emery’s side.
Indeed, Sherwood says that he thinks Elliott would be a very good signing, claiming that Villa would be a great platform for the player heading into a World Cup year.

Harvey Elliott would be a very good signing
Sherwood shared his verdict on Elliott and his potential move to Villa Park.
Of course, Sherwood knows a lot about Aston Villa having managed the club in the mid-2010s, and he believes Elliott could be a fantastic signing.
“Harvey Elliott would be a very good signing as well, we know what a talent that boy is,” Sherwood said.
“The good thing about Harvey Elliott is that he wants to get out there and play games. If he’s going to leave Liverpool, he’s going to a massive club in Aston Villa, it’s a great platform for him, so hopefully they get some transfers over the line.
Harvey Elliott’s route to the England squad analysed
Sherwood says this is a great platform for Elliott to kick on in a World Cup year, and it will be interesting to see if he can get into Thomas Tuchel’s squad this summer.
Unfortunately for Elliott, he’s in a very competitive position in this England squad as the Three Lions have tons of players who can play as either a number 10 or a right winger.
| England’s right-wing options | England’s attacking midfield options |
| Bukayo Saka | Cole Palmer |
| Jarrod Bowen | Phil Foden |
| Noni Madueke | Eberechi Eze |
| Cole Palmer | Morgan Gibbs-White |
Elliott will have to do something pretty special to get into this team, and he’s given himself the best possible chance by making a move to Villa where he’ll likely get much more gametime.
