It’s transfer deadline day, and it’s going to be a busy few hours or so at Manchester United.
Indeed, after a slow start to the season, Ruben Amorim’s side clearly have some problems that need addressing.
United need to get rid of a few players as Jadon Sancho needs a new club, and Antony needs to finalise a move to Real Betis.
Meanwhile, in terms of incomings, it doesn’t necessarily take a genius to figure out what Manchester United need.
Indeed, Manchester United are desperate for a goalkeeper, and Emi Martinez has been linked to United on deadline day.
Speaking on his podcast, Wayne Rooney has been discussing the idea of Martinez joining United, and he says this would be a great signing.

Wayne Rooney approves Emi Martinez to Man United
Rooney spoke about the idea of Martinez heading to Old Trafford.
The pundit says that this would be a great signing if the deal gets done, claiming that it’s been incredibly obvious so far this season that United need a goalkeeper.
“I think Martinez is obviously a top goalkeeper. I think if that could happen then that’d be great. I think him or Donnarumma for me would be fantastic acquisitions,” Rooney said.
“I think it’s clear they need a goalkeeper. I think it’s every game we seem to be talking about mistakes or you know the goalkeepers not filling the defence with confidence. So yeah, I think hopefully over the next 24 hours, I think Martinez would be would be the one who would really improve them a lot. So it’d be nice to see him.”
Emi Martinez’s record vs Manchester United
Emi Martinez is a fantastic goalkeeper. After all, he is a World Cup winner who has taken Aston Villa to new heights in recent years.
He’s certainly earned himself a move to a club like Manchester United. However, interestingly, his stats against the Red Devils aren’t all that great.
| Emi Martinez’s record vs Manchester United | |
| Games | 12 |
| Wins | 2 |
| Draws | 2 |
| Losses | 8 |
| Clean sheets | 3 |
| Goals conceded | 16 |
Martinez has only kept three clean sheets in 12 games against United, while he’s conceded 16 goals in that time.
Martinez doesn’t thrive in front of the Old Trafford crowd, and he was even sent off at Old Trafford on the final day of the season last year.
Hopefully, Martinez fares better at Old Trafford if he becomes a Manchester United player.
