Bryan Mbeumo was of interest to both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United this summer.
The Cameroon international forward worked with Thomas Frank at Brentford, and he was absolutely incredible under the Dane.
It was always likely that the Bees’ star would attract interest from several big clubs in the country after he scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season.
After a lot of speculation, Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Mbeumo, and his move is expected to be completed before their pre-season tour.
Thomas Frank reacts to Bryan Mbeumo moving to Manchester United
Bryan Mbeumo had several options this summer.
Manchester United have been desperate to sign the 25-year-old, and they have put in a lot of work to get this deal over the line.
Before an agreement was reached, however, Tottenham also tried to sign Mbeumo, with Frank keen to reunite with him in North London.
However, Mbeumo snubbed a move to Spurs, telling them directly that he only wants to join Manchester United this summer.
In his first-ever press conference as the new Tottenham boss, Frank was asked how hard he pushed to sign Mbeumo after news emerged that he is heading to Old Trafford.
He replied: “I like to speak about players who are here at Tottenham.
“Bryan, of course, is a fantastic player. I was with him for five years. I think he deserves the move, no matter where he goes.
“That’s a player I wish all the best when you’ve been with him for so long.”
Bryan Mbeumo vs Mohammed Kudus stats in the last two seasons
After it became clear that Mbeumo had no interest in a switch to Tottenham, the Europa League winners decided to pursue a move for Mohammed Kudus.
After lengthy negotiations with West Ham United, a deal was struck, and Kudus has already started training with his new teammates.
But how do his numbers compare to those of Mbeumo over the last two seasons?
| Games | Goals | Assists | |
| Bryan Mbeumo in 2023/24 and 2024/25 | 69 | 29 | 16 |
| Mohammed Kudus in 2023/24 and 2024/25 | 80 | 19 | 13 |
Mbeumo’s numbers are clearly better, but it has to be said that the Cameroon international played for a more settled team over the last two years.
We still think that the Brentford man would’ve been the better option, but Kudus is way more versatile, and the fact that he only wanted Tottenham will make the fans love him.
It will be interesting to see how the two players will get on at their new clubs in the upcoming campaign.
