Tottenham Transfer News: Thomas Frank speaks out after David Raya rumours
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has played down talk of a move to Tottenham for his star goalkeeper, David Raya.
The Spanish stopper has been credited with being on Tottenham’s radar in recent weeks. The Bees number one has been in form for a number of seasons now, prompting The Telegraph to suggest Raya could be Spurs’ long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
However, speaking ahead of Brentford taking on Bournemouth today, Bees boss Frank insisted Raya is happy, although he conceded he can see why Spurs are keen.
“I understand why they are interested. He is a very, very good keeper,” he said to Sky.
“I said many times I think he is among the best in the league and he has performed fantastic for us, but he is going nowhere. Let’s see. We are interested. I know David is very happy here, but there will be ongoing discussions of course.”
Raya joined Brentford for a minimal fee and has since proven to be a fine signing. However, with that deal only having 18 months left, he could be tempted by a big offer from elsewhere.
Spurs are looking for a long-term solution to the problem facing them with Lloris. Raya, it seems, appears to tick a lot boxes for Conte’s side.
TBR’s View: Raya would be a safe pair of hands for Tottenham
Tottenham need to resolve their issue around Lloris. It’s imperative they sign a new goalkeeper who can replace the Frenchman and they need to get it right first time.
Raya has been brilliant for Brentford but there might come a time he wants to move on. If Tottenham can secure the top four, then they become an even more attractive proposition.
For now, Frank’s words will be a relief for Brentford fans. But long-term, Spurs might well be able to tempt Raya.
