‘This guy’: Michail Antonio claims £30m reported Tottenham target can’t even take a throw-in

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio claims reported Tottenham Hotspur target Kyle Walker-Peters can’t even take a throw-in.

Walker-Peters has been a standout performer for Southampton ever since he left his boyhood club Spurs back in 2020.

The 25-year-old has matured into a talented full-back who is capable of playing on both sides of the Saints defence under Ralph Hasenhuttl. His performances since leaving north London have been that good that his former side have apparently shown interest in re-signing him.

Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport over the summer that Spurs were interested in a possible reunion with Walker-Peters.

The Athletic also reported that Spurs agreed a £30 million buy-back clause for the full-back when he left the club. But a move didn’t materialise and he has remained on the south coast.

Now, Antonio has been speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast following the Hammers’ 1-1 draw with the Saints on Sunday. The 32-year-old has claimed that Walkers-Peters can’t even take a throw-in following Sunday’s clash.

Antonio claims Walker-Peters can’t even take a throw-in

Antonio claims the Saints full-back took several foul throw-ins throughout the game at St Mary’s, with one leading to the Hammers conceding a goal.

Walker-Peters’ foot appeared to cross the line when he took a throw-in right before Romain Perraud’s opener. The Hammers striker was also angered by referee Peter Bankes, who appeared to obstruct Jarrod Bowen right before Parraud smashed the ball home.

But he took aim at Walker-Peters over his throw-ins throughout the game.

“You know I don’t like talking about referees and VAR much! But oh my. The referee gets in the way of Jarrod, so he can’t get the ball,” he said.

“Kyle Walker-Peters cannot take a throw in to save his life. I don’t know if there’s such thing as a foul throw any more because that guy.

“As the game went on he got better but before that he took five throw ins and every one was a foul throw. We were like what on earth is going on! Then they scored from the foul throw again.”

Southampton’s goal was certainly a controversial one on Sunday and has clearly angered Antonio. Walker-Peters’ foot did appear to cross the touchline and there’s no doubt that the referee obstructed Bowen, who was about to challenge Perraud for the ball.

The criticism of Walker-Peters from Antonio seems a bit harsh but he is understandably frustrated by the Saints’ opener on the day. A Declan Rice screamer rescued a point for the Hammers on the day, but they could have picked up three points if Perraud’s goal was disallowed.
