'They remain in talks': West Ham still pushing to sign £33m player, deciding whether to pay for him now - journalist
And in the latest update, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims that West Ham have held talks with Napoli over Zielinski but are deciding whether to meet the Italian club’s £33.4 million valuation.
The Hammers are making moves to bolster David Moyes’s squad this summer and most recently completed the signing of Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca.
Now they are looking to add depth to Moyes’ midfield and are talking to Napoli over a deal for the Poland international.
West Ham pushing for Zielisnki
“They remain in talks with Napoli over the signing of the midfielder Piotr Zielinski,” he said.
“No official bid yet but when is a bid a bid? There’s been verbal discussions between the two clubs and initial discussions have highlighted a gap in what West Ham would be prepared to pay and what Napoli want.
“We think Napoli value the Polish international at upwards of 40 million euros (£33.4 million).
“West Ham now deciding whether they’re going to get closer to that valuation. As for the player himself, he’s got decisions to make because he’s guaranteed Champions League Football with Napoli next season but on the flipside, 28-years-old.
“Would he get the chance of a big Premier League move again? He’s 28. So, plenty to ponder for Zielinski if, and it’s still a big if, West Ham and Napoli can agree on a fee.”
West Ham trying to land another Serie A star
West Ham have already landed one Serie A player in Scamacca and now it looks like they are trying for another one.
The 28-year-old Napoli man has been excellent for the Italian side and chipped in with eight goals and five assists from central midfield last season.
The Poland international would certainly add a goal threat from Moyes’ midfield in a similar way to Tomas Soucek.
Zielisnki would also bring some much-needed depth in the middle of the park for Moyes as he would compete for starting positions with Declan Rice and Soucek.
