Leeds United suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad last night and Marcelo Bielsa was not a happy man after the game.
The defending Premier League champions definitely went into the game as the favourites but nobody would’ve expected a 7-0 drubbing. That is a serious cause for concern, and Bielsa has delivered his verdict on the result.
The Leeds United boss claimed that his side gave him no positives to take away from the game last night. He also revealed that he predicted that City would play exactly the way that they did, and although he prepared his side to deal with the threat, they failed.
Here’s what the frustrated Argentine said after the defeat last night…
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa on 7-0 loss: There’s no justification I can offer
He told Leeds’ official website after the game: “There’s nothing positive to take away from our performance, I can’t find anything that can be valued.
“As a result and as is natural in these cases, when there is nothing that is well done it’s not the individualities that fail, but the conduction, the organisation, there’s no justification I can offer. The game was exactly how we thought it was going to be. We prepared ourselves to avoid everything that happened.
“We didn’t manage to get anything so the superiority wouldn’t be noticeable, we didn’t do anything well, and that was evident in the scoreline. I insist, everything that happened was what we wanted to avoid and needed to overcome.
“As there is nothing to rescue or take from it in the individual and collective, it’s inevitable I have to take the responsibility for a defeat of this type. We’ve never had a performance like the one today.”

TBR View:
Bielsa has overseen 160 games as Leeds United boss and last night’s result was undoubtedly his worst one.
It took Manchester City just eight minutes to break the deadlock and from that point, it seemed very easy for them. The hosts maintained 65 per cent possession, registered almost twice as many passes as Leeds and had a staggering 31 shots at goal – over five times as many as Bielsa’s side.
This has to act as a huge wake-up call for every Leeds United player. They have been incredible since Bielsa took charge of the club, but if they don’t start winning games soon, they will go back to where they started under the Argentine – the Championship.
