Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa was really impressed with the way Raphinha converted his penalty against Crystal Palace last night.

The Whites left it late at Elland Road but managed to get over the line in the end. Leeds were awarded a penalty in the 91st minute after Palace star Marc Guehi was adjudged to have handled the ball.

Things have not gone Leeds’ way this season. That added to the pressure, but Raphinha made it look extremely easy, skipping in the air before slotting the ball in the corner.

Bielsa was asked about his star winger’s composure, and the Leeds boss heaped praise on him.

Bielsa: Raphinha got us the three points

The Argentine said after the game, as per BBC Sport: “Raphinha’s very important and to score that goal he needed a lot of character, personality and courage. He got us the three points.

“We haven’t taken many points so far this season. Every game we see as an opportunity to balance this out.

“The opposing team had developed their play very well and it was very difficult to keep that clean sheet.”

Leeds have had a poor campaign so far. Last night’s win was only their fourth of the season, and they are stuck in 15th in the table as a result.

The Whites have, at times, been unlucky. Injuries have been really cruel on them as well, but a late win like the one against Palace yesterday should give them the boost they need to kick on and climb up the table.

Leeds face Brentford next and that will not be an easy game. However, if Raphinha turns up and has a real go, Bielsa’s men should fancy themselves to get all three points.
