Who could’ve predicted that Scott McTominay would be Manchester United’s top goalscorer in the Premier League 15 games into the season?

The Scot was halfway out of the exit door at Old Trafford in the summer as West Ham looked to complete a deal for the 27-year-old, but now, he’s back in the United team and saving their skin most weeks.

McTominay is one of few players at Old Trafford that has actually improved this season, and speaking on Premier League Productions, Clinton Morrison has actually gone as far as to label the midfielder as United’s most important player at this moment in time.

McTominay United’s most important player

Morrison named McTominay as the most vital player in the United team now.

“If you look at it now, Scott McTominay is their top scorer and he’s their most important player. At the start of the season Ten Hag didn’t want him, he had the Casemiro’s. McTominay has proved what it means to play for Man United because I did question a few of the players after Newcastle,” Morrison said.

Stepped up

McTominay may not be Man United’s most talented player, but he’s certainly been their most important this season.

The Scot is one of the only players who has stood up to be counted when the chips have been down, and without his big goals in big moments, United’s position would look a lot more perilous than it is now.

His performance against Chelsea in midweek encapsulated just why McTominay has become so important to this United team, and that isn’t the first time this season the midfielder has made a big impact in a game when his team’s back were against the wall.

McTominay has quietly transformed into a key cog at Old Trafford, and he has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet now.
