The punishment Arne Slot is likely to receive after his red card in Liverpool vs Everton

Wednesday evening’s Merseyside derby was one for the ages as Liverpool faced Everton at Goodison Park for the final time.

This was a game filled with drama as James Tarkowski’s last-minute winner salvaged a point for Everton.

However, the drama continued after the final whistle as there was handbags between the Everton and Liverpool players after the game.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot was given a red card after the game after he approached Michael Oliver after the match.

Slot’s official punishment is yet to be announced, and the Premier League website made a blunder this week by sharing a premature update.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, Miguel Delaney has shared what he’s now heard about Slot after his ban, and he says that, by the sounds of it, the Dutchman is going to receive a two-game touchline ban.

Arne Slot set to receive two-game touchline ban

Delaney shared what he knows about Slot.

The journalist says that based on what he’s hearing, a two-game touchline ban is on the way for Arne Slot.

“I mean, from all the noises so far, it does feel like a two-game ban is inevitable. The one thing is a potential review could go on for some time. And that’s going to be all the more interesting because it’s Johnny’s reference there just to see what was actually said because that is what will come out in these sort of reviews,” Delaney said.

“I mean, it’s interesting with Slot because he’s one of the stories of Liverpool’s season has actually been out. No matter the controversy, no matter the kind of energy or something, he’s very good at kind of taking the sting out of it, keeping composed and then ensuring the team gets on with its business. Obviously, in this case, they lost the last of an equaliser and it was a rare moment where Slot, not quite letting his guard down, but I suppose he got involved.

“Now, I was watching some of the footage, which makes it all the more conspicuous because I was trying to see what was said, what he did. And it’s interesting that he doesn’t seem to say much before Oliver pulls out the card to the shock of Virgil van Dijk.”

“I mean, look, it could come out tomorrow, I think, which would mean if he’s found guilty, he potentially misses the Wolves game. But I think the likelihood is right now that at least rumbles into next week. And he potentially will say he’s not on the bench for the City game.”

Liverpool record when Jurgen Klopp had touchline bans

Slot won’t be on the Liverpool touchline for two of their upcoming games, and that may well affect performances on the pitch.

Indeed, Slot won’t be able to motivate his players from the sideline in some crucial games in the title race.

Of course, Liverpool have been here before.

Jurgen Klopp received two touchline bans during his time as Liverpool manager, once in 2022 for his conduct during a game against Manchester City, and again in 2023 for his comments about referee, Paul Tierney.

Klopp missed games against Southampton and Aston Villa with touchline bans, but the German’s absence didn’t seem to affect results too much.

Liverpool picked up four points from the two games that Klopp missed, which isn’t a bad result considering how good Aston Villa have been in recent years under Unai Emery.

The Reds will be hoping that Slot’s absence doesn’t have too negative an impact on results as they try to push on and secure the title ahead of Arsenal.
