Manchester United and Arsenal have both made the headlines in the Viktor Gyokeres transfer saga.
The Gunners have been pushing to sign the Swedish striker for a while now, but there is still no agreement between them and Sporting CP.
TBR Football revealed that Arsenal remain confident of striking a deal for Gyokeres, who is frustrated that his current club are dragging this on.
Now, the 27-year-old has more reason to be annoyed.
Fabrizio Romano shares what Sporting CP told Manchester United about Viktor Gyokeres ‘overnight’
Sporting CP have been very tough negotiators in this Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer saga.
The two clubs have been in talks to get this deal over the line for more than a week now, and just when it seemed like there was going to be a breakthrough, other problems arose.
Although Arsenal have agreed a fee with Sporting for Gyokeres, there is disagreement over the add-ons involved in the deal – the Portuguese champions want the variable sum to be guaranteed.
Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs, but in a move that should annoy Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sporting have tried to get Manchester United into the mix for Gyokeres.
He said in a video on his YouTube channel: “What I wanted to tell you is that in the last 24 hours, so let me say especially in the recent hours, overnight, the night between Monday and Tuesday, from Sporting, intermediaries and agents close to Sporting offered again to Manchester United the opportunity to enter into the deal and try to hijack the move.
“So basically, what they did in this kind of case is tell Man United something like ‘if you want, Arsenal are offering this, but they’ve not closed the deal yet. So, if you want, you can still enter and reach an agreement with Sporting’.”
What Viktor Gyokeres told Arsenal after Sporting CP offered him to Manchester United
Arsenal have every right to be annoyed after learning that Sporting are trying to push Gyokeres elsewhere while continuing talks with them.
That doesn’t feel right at all, but in what is good news for Mikel Arteta’s side, the player remains committed to moving to the Emirates.
Romano revealed in the same video that after Sporting contacted Manchester United, Gyokeres and his agent both made it clear to Arsenal once again that the player only wants to become a Gunner.
The journalist added: “It’s also very important to say that at the same moment, the message from Viktor Gyokeres and his agent to Arsenal has been very clear: ‘I only want to go to Arsenal’.
“The same message was also sent to Sporting because Sporting have obviously informed the player of this opportunity – eventually for Manchester United, eventually for Saudi clubs 10 days ago. And the answer they are receiving again from Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal. Gyokeres wants to go to Arsenal.
“So let’s see what’s going to happen there because Arsenal and Sporting keep negotiating on these add-ons, keep negotiating on these details of the deal.
“On Monday, around lunchtime, they had new contacts trying to advance on the structure of these add-ons. So continuing in negotiations, still no breakthrough in talks.
“So, Sporting did this move overnight, between Monday and Tuesday, so in the recent hours while I’m recording this video, but the message from Viktor Gyokeres remains clear. He wants to go to Arsenal. So guys, if everything will go to plan, then Viktor Gyokeres will become an Arsenal player in the next days.”
