Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has praised the Liverpool board and ownership for giving Jurgen Klopp the time he needed to build the fantastic squad he has today.

The Reds appointed the German in October 2015 and it took him a while to make his side a successful one. Liverpool won nothing until 2019, but the board stuck by the German and backed him in the transfer market.

Klopp got the squad he wanted and Liverpool are now one of the best teams in the world. The Reds have won the Champions League and the Premier League under the German, and it won’t surprise anyone if they go on to pick up those trophies again this season.

Conte was quizzed about Klopp ahead of the game on Sunday and the Spurs boss heaped praise on his counterpart.

Conte: Liverpool kept faith in Klopp and he has created a strong team

The Italian said, as per Tottenham Hotspur’s official website: “Liverpool are strong, always.

“I think Jurgen made a fantastic job with Liverpool. He needed a bit of time, but the club understood Jurgen was the right person and he has created a strong, strong team.

“It’s amazing to watch them, the intensity, the passion, for all the work they show during the game.

“We know we’re facing one of the best teams now in Europe, maybe the world. At the same time, we want to play this game and to see where we are.”

Spurs should back Conte too

Liverpool could’ve easily sacked Klopp after they finished eighth in his first season. However, they stuck by him, gave him the funds he needed to sign brilliant players like Virgil van Dijk and Allison, and it has paid off.

Conte, like Klopp, is one of the best managers in world football. However, he’s no magician who can turn things around at Tottenham in the space of a few months.

The Italian should be given the time and the financial backing he needs to build the side he wants. Only then, he can be judged. But, if history is anything to go by, Daniel Levy could well sack him before his contract ends in 2023.
