Tottenham’s start to the season has been far from ideal to say the least.
Spurs sit 10th in the table at the moment, and they handed Ipswich Town their first Premier League win in over 20 years on Sunday.

The Tractor Boys beat Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what was a big upset, and, as you can imagine, the inquest at Spurs is ongoing.
Speaking on The View from The Lane, Jack Pitt-Brooke has been discussing some of Spurs’ issues, and he says that internally, Tottenham are aware of one big problem regarding consistency.
Indeed, the journalist says that Spurs are aware that their players are simply too inconsistent.

Tottenham aware of inconsistency issue
Pitt-Brooke spoke about the inconsistency issue at Tottenham, claiming that people within the club are very much aware of this problem.
“I think there’s a big problem, which is that the players are so inconsistent. Even the good players are not capable of doing it week in, week out. And I know this is a problem which, they’re certainly aware of inside the club,’ Pitt-Brooke said.
“All the guys who you need to be at their best week in, week out, they’re not really, you know, Son is not having a good season, I don’t think. Admittedly, he’s had injuries, obviously, I think he has credit in the bank for being so good for the last nine years, but he’s not having a good season.
“Romero is not having a good season. Maddison is so inconsistent, he’s no longer in the team.
“Kulusevski is the one who is having a good season, but, you know, he can’t win games all by himself every single week. And so I think overall, there are big, big questions about the consistency of the players.”
How can Tottenham fix their inconsistency problems?
Tottenham have a serious problem with consistency at the moment, and even their star players are struggling.
Heung-Min Son was once seen as Spurs’ most consistent player, but he’s blown hot and cold this season, while Richarlison has also been criticised for his inconsistency.
So, how can Tottenham fix this problem? Perhaps, as ever, their issues lie with their recruitment policy.
Spurs have been trying to take talented young players from smaller clubs for a long time now.
Three of their biggest signings in recent years have been from Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City, and when you’re signing players from clubs like that, they’re bound to be inconsistent, because they’re not proven at the top level.
Tottenham need to bring in a few players who are tried and tested at the top level rather than every signing being a project signing or a gamble.
Dejan Kulusevski is a great example, he was signed from a huge club where he had been performing well in the shape of Juventus, but since signing Kulusevski, Spurs have seemingly ditched that policy of taking other top clubs’ talent. Instead, going for players from smaller clubs with perceived high potential.
| Tottenham permanent first-team signings since 2023/24 | Club signed from |
| Guglielmo Vicario | Empoli |
| James Maddison | Leicester City |
| Micky van de Ven | Wolfsburg |
| Brennan Johnson | Nottingham Forest |
| Radu Dragusin | Genoa |
| Manor Solomon | Shakhtar Donetsk |
| Dominic Solanke | Bournemouth |
| Archie Gray | Leeds |
| Wilson Odobert | Burnley |
| Lucas Bergvall | Djurgarden |
There’s a reason Arsenal’s growth came off the back of signing multiple players from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, and that’s something that Spurs need to keep in mind.
