Son Heung-min should have been among the contenders for PFA Player of the Year and has been Tottenham’s most consistent player for the past two seasons, according to Clive Allen.
Speaking to Bein Sports, via Football.London, Allen gave his view about the South Korean after he was left off the six-man shortlist for the award, with the winner set to be announced this Sunday.
Allen said: “He doesn’t need a PFA nomination, he’s been absolutely outstanding. The last two years I think he has been Spurs’ most consistent player.
“Harry Kane’s scoring record is second to none but Son has been absolutely superb. He’s stepped up when Harry hasn’t been there, worked with him when he has been there. He should have been one of the contenders for player of the year.”

It’s tough to match Kane’s goalscoring output, but his form has fluctuated at times, due to being rushed back from injury and burnout after the World Cup.
Whereas Son doesn’t seem to have been affected in the same way and his ability to take on the mantle as a central striker seamlessly when Kane isn’t in the team is the main reason why Spurs have now been able to win matches without their talisman.
Allen is absolutely right to say that Son should have been on the PFA Player of the Year shortlist. He should have had Eden Hazard’s place.
