It has been almost a month since Tottenham Hotspur sold Cameron Carter-Vickers to Celtic, and the American has now had his say about the move.
The 24-year-old, labelled as ‘outstanding’ by Micah Richards, spent over a decade on Spurs’ books, but he never quite got the run of games he needed to show Tottenham supporters what he’s all about.
Carter-Vickers was sent out on loan on numerous occasions, but it was his spell at Celtic that caught everyone’s eyes. The American was absolutely brilliant for the Hoops last season, and it is no surprise that they decided to sign him on a permanent deal.
The defender has now opened up about his transfer, and he has claimed that he knew much before the end of last season that Tottenham didn’t want to keep hold of him.
Cameron Carter-Vickers says he’s delighted to finally get away from Tottenham
The American said, as per The Daily Record: “I was linked with a few Premier League clubs but it was never anything concrete because I was always set from the end of last season that I wanted to sign for Celtic. That’s what I wanted to do.
“It didn’t happen immediately but it was still done quite quickly and I was delighted. It was important for me to finally get away from Tottenham.
“I think I kind of knew Tottenham’s stance before the end of the season. I didn’t really have to go back in the summer and speak to him.
“So it was quite simple if the clubs could agree a fee. To get the deal done early in the window was good.”

TBR View:
Carter-Vickers really is a talented centre-half, there’s no debate on that front.
It’s a shame that things didn’t work out for him at Tottenham after spending over a decade in their books, but it’s not really Spurs’ fault either – they’ve almost always had better centre-halves than the American.
Antonio Conte currently has Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez at his disposal. All of them were ahead of Carter-Vickers, which means he had no chance of making it at Tottenham.
A move away was the best thing for all parties, and at Celtic, Carter-Vickers finally has a place he can call home.
