‘That’s what caught my attention’… ESPN pundit says one Manchester United player was ‘quietly good’ vs Villa

Janusz Michallik has named the Manchester United star who caught his eye by being quietly good against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side picked up another impressive result at the weekend as they beat the Villans. It was a result which put a dent in Unai Emery’s men’s top four hopes in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, Rasmus Hojlund has been lauded after his performance against Villa. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire was superb in the victory. But there were several others who impressed for the visitors.

Bruno Fernandes praised after Manchester United win

Bruno Fernandes has been a divisive figure as a captain of the club. And the Portuguese still has not scored a Premier League goal since the start of November.

But speaking on ESPN, Janusz Michallik suggested that he was actually hugely impressed by the 29-year-old – as he has been throughout the season.

“If you’re interested in statistics, he’s by far the best player, Bruno Fernandes, if you’re looking through the season,” he said.

“If you watch that Villa game, he was quietly good. That’s what caught my attention actually, without knowing that this argument or this topic was going to come up. Because I almost had to look for him, but when you did, he was just about everywhere where he needed to be, that sort of a playmaker that doesn’t have to do it all. He’s not only the playmaker, he keeps the rhythm of course.”

Skipper remains the talisman

Bruno Fernandes is one of the superstars within the United squad. He has been the standout player during some really dark times for the club. His record of 71 goals and 61 assists in 217 games in all competitions is a remarkable record considering how poor Manchester United have been in the last few years.

The good news for the skipper is that more players around him are now impressing. The signs, on and off the pitch, are looking a lot more positive.

So that may mean that Fernandes goes under the radar a little more often in the weeks and months to come.

But clearly, he remains the side’s talisman. And opponents will still be extremely concerned about what he could do against them whenever they face United.
