Arsenal returned to winning ways after beating Southampton 3-0 over the weekend but Mikel Arteta’s men face a tough test against West Ham United tomorrow.
The Gunners’ win over the Saints pushed them up to sixth in the Premier League table, just two points behind the final Champions League spot. West Ham currently occupy that position, but an Arsenal win in the London derby this week will push them above the Hammers and potentially into the top four.
That would be incredible for Arteta, whose side were stuck in the bottom of the league table after the first three games. Not many predicted them to get back into the top-half of the table at this point, let alone be as close as they are to a spot in the top-four.
Merson has had his say on the game this week and he’s stunned at the fact that the Gunners could leapfrog West Ham with a win.
Paul Merson: Arsenal will beat West Ham United
The Englishman wrote in his column on Sportskeeda: “Wow, what a game this could turn out to be!
“West Ham played really well against Burnley but they couldn’t score.
“If Arsenal win this one, they’ll go above West Ham in the Premier League standings and that’s rather unbelievable considering where the two sides were a few weeks ago.”
“I think Arsenal will win this one, they’ll make their home advantage count. West Ham look a bit tired at times and tend to rely on a group of players too much, which has started to show a bit in recent weeks.”

TBR View:
Arsenal fans would love nothing more than a win tomorrow but it won’t be easy. David Moyes has well and truly transformed West Ham, and they are more than capable of getting the better of the Gunners at the Emirates.
However, if Arsenal pick up the three points and make it into the top four, that would be a huge boost. Arteta’s young side have had a lot of problems to deal with this season, but to overcome all of that and be in or around the fourth spot at the end of the year would give the players a lot of confidence.
It will be interesting to see how the game pans out. The last time these two sides met, it was a thrilling 3-3 draw, and if the game tomorrow will be anything like that, both sets of fans are in for a treat.
