'That's not a good mix': Jurgen Klopp makes claim about Tottenham after Liverpool reach Champions League final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was a happy man after his side reached the final of the Champions League last night, but his focus is already on Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the game this weekend.

The Reds were made to work hard by Unai Emery’s Villarreal yesterday. Liverpool were given a right scare in the first half, but their quality showed after the break, and that proved to be too much to handle for the Spaniards.

One thing that will concern Klopp, however, is how easy it was for Villarreal to play through his side in the first half. It was extremely unlike Liverpool to be so open at the back, especially with Virgil van Dijk present at the heart of their defence.

What On Earth Is Going On At Bordeaux?

Klopp, like most Liverpool fans, did not like the first half, but Spurs boss Antonio Conte may have spotted a few things his side can exploit in the game this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp makes claim about Tottenham after beating Villarreal

After Villarreal’s spirited performance last night, the last thing Klopp needs is another side playing on the counter-attack. Sadly for him, the game this weekend will likely be very similar.

The Liverpool boss claimed in an interview after the win that playing a counter-attacking team like Spurs after Villarreal, in a game that is a must-win for the Reds, is ‘not a good mix.’

Klopp told CBS Sports: “You saw that Villarreal performance, how they fought for it and our reaction in the first have, how nervous you can get when things don’t go your way.

“In the league, we are not the favourites, that’s how it is, but we are close enough, but we play next game vs Tottenham. As far as I know, they are really good at counter-attacking, we have to win the game, we all know, and that’s not a good mix.”

If you’re a side that isn’t comfortable playing against an organised, counter-attacking group, Conte’s men are the last team you’d want to face. Sadly, Klopp and co have no choice this weekend.

Conte would’ve certainly taken notes last night, and he’d have a plan in place to cause Liverpool all kinds of problems – just like Villarreal did throughout the first half.

However, Klopp would’ve noticed those problems too, and if the last six years have taught us anything about Liverpool, they’re not usually a team that repeats their mistakes.

The game this weekend is a big one, and a loss for either side could crush their respective dreams this season.
