One of the strikers who have been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is Dominic Solanke, and Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe’s comments about him are certainly encouraging for the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Howe worked with Solanke when he was the Bournemouth manager, and the Newcastle boss rates the former Liverpool striker highly.

So, what has Eddie Howe said about Arsenal target Dominic Solanke? Let’s take a look.

Eddie Howe rates Dominic Solanke highly

Well, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been speaking about Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke has been in superb form for Bournemouth this season and has been linked with a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

The former Liverpool striker has scored 12 goals and given one assist in 19 Premier League matches for the Cherries so far this campaign.

Howe signed Solanke for Bournemouth, and while he has admitted that Newcastle cannot afford to sign the striker, who is on the radar of Arsenal, he rates the 26-year-old highly.

When asked about a move for Solanke, Howe said, as quoted in ChronicleLive: “A frustrating story for me.

“I love Dominic Solanke. I signed him, and rate him very highly. But we have not made an enquiry for him and we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level.”

Arsenal linked with Dominic Solanke

In December 2023, The Daily Star reported that Arsenal’s main target in January is Brentford and England international striker Ivan Toney.

But, according to the report, the Gunners do not want to pay over the odds for Toney and have identified Solanke of Bournemouth as a potential alternative.

The Daily Star reported that Arsenal could make a bid for Solanke if they cannot get Toney. Manager Mikel Arteta is personally an admirer of the striker, who is valued at £50 million by Bournemouth and is rated highly by Paul Merson.

I do not think that Bournemouth will sell Solanke for anything less than £50 million in the January transfer window. So, in my opinion, if Arsenal are really keen on the striker, then they have to pay that sum.
