‘That could happen’… Pundit claims Celtic may be in real danger of losing key figure now

Celtic were rocked last week with the news that Harry Kewell was being targeted by Ange Postecoglou’s old team Yokohama F Marinos for their managerial vacancy.

The Australian coach has been a pivotal part of the Celtic backroom team over the last season and a half and, clearly, he has done enough to impress the J League club for them to consider him becoming their number one man.

And he has been tipped to leave Celtic should Yokohama take their interest forward and offer Kewell the job by pundit, Tam McManus.

McManus said [PLZ Soccer], “I think he would take that. I think he’s obviously ambitious to go and be his own man and I think that would be a great job.

“I think Kevin Muscat was the manager and he’s just left and if he went over there to be his own man it would leave a gap at Celtic.

“So there would be a few in the mix probably for that. Scott Brown, Stephen McManus maybe stepping up.

“So I think that could happen. I think that if Harry Kewell gets that opportunity to go to Japan and be a manager I think he would take it rather than being a coach at Celtic.”

Kewell has been credited with developing players like Luis Palma and Daizen Maeda this season at Celtic.

Clearly well respected in the Parkhead dressing room, there is little doubt that if Kewell were to leave Celtic, it would be viewed as a massive blow to the Hoops squad.

However, Kewell really is enjoying life at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers and whilst he may have ambitions to become his own man at some point, hopefully, he is loving life at Lennoxtown enough just to see out the remainder of the season.

But if he was to go, it would give Rodgers another headache to deal with as he looks to strengthen the first team. The last thing the Celtic manager needs is to replace a coach he clearly trusts.
