'That boy has got all the ability': Souness lauds Leeds star after West Ham win

Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 16/1; 16:27) that Raphinha has got all the ability to play for any side in the world, while he also lauded the work-rate of the Leeds United winger following his latest display.

Raphinha was outstanding on Sunday as Leeds beat West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium. The Brazilian did not add to his tally of eight goals in the Premier League this season.

But he provided a superb assist for the winning goal as Jack Harrison completed his hat-trick. And the 25-year-old looked to be back towards his best against the Hammers, causing all sorts of problems for the home side’s defence.

It is likely to have been a performance that caught the eye of many clubs. Of course, Raphinha has been linked with a host of sides since he arrived at Elland Road.

Leeds fans will hope that Raphinha’s display is a sign of what is to come for them in the coming months. But they will also be aware that keeping him is going to be incredibly difficult should he kick on from here.

Certainly, Souness believes that he is ready to play for the best. He suggested that Raphinha ticks the boxes for both quality and application following the stunning win.

“To be part of a top team that win trophies, you have to work your socks off whatever area you’ve played in. That boy has got all the ability you’ll ever need to play in any team, anywhere in the world right now,” he told Sky Sports.

“But on top of that, he’s got the hard yards in him as well. He’ll do the running that players like him, with all that technique, don’t normally want to do. He will do it.”

Raphinha set to net Leeds a huge profit when times come to leave Elland Road

Leeds fans have always been realistic about keeping Raphinha. It has been apparent, almost since his debut, that he is destined to attract big offers.

And keeping him is only going to become tougher if his form remains so impressive for the rest of the campaign.

It feels somewhat inevitable that the time will come for Raphinha to leave Leeds. But there is no question that he is going to net the Whites an eye-watering profit.
