TBR View: Transfer swap betweem Maddison and injury-stricken Coutinho would leave Leicester fans angry

Leicester City, AC Milan and Inter Milan have ‘shown interest’ in a transfer for Barcelona ace Philippe Coutinho.

According to Sport, the Milan clubs want to sign the ace on a season-long loan deal.

Coutinho has endured injury-hell following his £142m move to the Camp Nou over three years ago. The £383k-p/w Brazilian has been out since December 2020 after picking up a serious knee injury.

However, he’s told the club of his intentions to return to pre-season to continue his recovery. The outfit wants to get see if he’s up to scratch, if so, they’d look to sell the 29-year-old.

Coutinho’s primary option was to return to Liverpool, however, Jurgen Klopp has ‘closed the doors for him’.

Coutinho transfer might signal exit of Maddison from Leicester

A transfer chase of Coutinho might hint that James Maddison could be leaving Leicester this summer.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in making a move for the 24-year-old. However, Leicester will demand close to the price they sold Harry Maguire for, £80m.

It’s not a fee that would seem to scare the Gunners if recent history is anything to go by.

The north Londoners smashed their transfer record after spending £72m on Nicolas Pepe back in 2019.

But, a swap between Maddison and Coutinho is far from appealing.

The former is a young and quality player, whilst the latter has become underwhelming and injury-prone.

Maddison scored 11 times and registered 10 assists as he helped the outfit lift the FA Cup. Meanwhile, the Brazil international made just 14 appearances before injury ended his campaign.

Coutinho is also likely to demand hefty wages, something the Foxes would be unlikely to afford after the last 18 months.

The report would leave you angry if you’re a Leicester fan, swapping the England international would be a horrible move. Especially for a player like Coutinho.
