Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update on Arsenal target who 'is a priority' over Maddison
Sky Sports Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Arsenal target Martin Odegaard.
Speaking on the Don Robbie YouTube channel, the Italian reporter revealed that the Gunners view the Norwegian as their main target.
Romano also claimed that Odegaard ‘is a priority’ over James Maddison. The Gunners are interested in the Leicester City star as reported by Football London.
Odegaard’s future looked certain to be at Real Madrid. However, this update, as well as a report from the Daily Mail, suggests there’s still a chance Arsenal can sign the 22-year-old.
‘They want to continue’
Romano said when asked if Odegaard is wanted by Arsenal more than previous transfer target Emi Buendia: “More than Buendia, yes.
“I’m told that even if they have a 1% chance to sign Odegaard, they want to continue [negotiating with Real Madrid] and to try and sign Odegaard on a permanent deal.
“But at the moment, the situation with Real Madrid is they are still saying ‘no he’s not leaving the club’. So let’s see if Ancelotti will continue with this position or maybe it will change.”
Odegaard or Maddison would be game-changing for Arsenal
A creative midfielder is a must for Arsenal this summer. And the Gunners could find themselves in a unique position where they might have to choose from either Odegaard or Maddison.
Indeed, both players have positives and negatives. But the main selling point for either star is that they’re exactly what Arsenal need this summer.
With Emile Smith Rowe looking likely to sign a new contract with the club, the Gunners could seriously bolster their creative ranks by signing either Odegaard or Maddison.
Either player would be a game-changer for the Gunners and a huge sign of intent for next season. And a quality playmaker will be key to Arsenal qualifying for Europe next season.
