Arsenal will be hoping that bringing in Mikel Arteta will be the start of a new era, and the January transfer window comes at a perfect time to improve a faltering squad.
There are several positions that could do with reinforcing in the current Gunners side, but one that is lacking, in particular, is the midfield. They are lacking experience in the middle of the park and that is crucial in what is arguably the most important area of the pitch.

One player that Arsenal should consider is Arturo Vidal. According to ESPN, the Chilean stormed out of training on Tuesday after he was told he was not included in the starting line-up for El Clasico on Wednesday.
A number of players reportedly failed to calm down the 32-year-old, and the club now fear that he will push for a move away from the Nou Camp in January. He has made just three starts in La Liga this season and will want to be playing first-team football.

That is where Arsenal comes in. If Vidal is desperate to leave the club, then Barcelona will find it difficult to prevent it. It could work to their detriment if they do not allow him a move.
Because of his age, the price tag is unlikely to be too high, and Arsenal could tempt him with the promise of first-team football. Vidal would bring some much-needed steel to the Gunners midfield and would be a statement of intent from the new manager.
