Report: Mikel Arteta has been appointed as Arsenal manager

Respected Sky Italy reported Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his official website that Mikel Arteta has been appointed Arsenal manager and will replace Freddie Ljungberg ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Everton on Saturday.

Arteta, who was Manchester City assistant manager under Pep Guardiola, has been appointed as Unai Emery’s replacement after a dismal run of form that has seen the Gunners win just one Premier League match since October 6.

It is now believed Arteta has agreed a move to make his first foray into the world of management. He takes over at Arsenal, returning to the north London club he captained for the first time since leaving and retiring as a player in 2016.

His first game looks as though it will come in the form of Saturday’s clash against Everton at Goodison Park, a club Arteta played for six years between in 2005 and 2011. It remains to be seen how long his contract will be.

TBR’s view – Can Arteta finally reignite Arsenal form?

It is a risk. Arteta has never worked as a manager, but has had the best apprenticeship in world football – working under Guardiola at Manchester City, who are favourites to win the Champions League.

The Gunners are in disarray with the defence struggling and some players looking as though they do not want to put the required effort in. Can Arteta change things? We simply do not know.
