TalkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor has said that Liverpool could be in for a hammering against Man City if Ibou Konate is indeed injured.
Rumours are rife that Konate is going to miss out for the Reds, forcing Jurgen Klopp into yet another tactical or personnel switch this season. Konate was expected to start at centre-half, with Joe Gomez filling in at right back once again.

However, Gomez may now have to move to centre-half himself and Agbonlahor believes that could be trouble for Liverpool against City’s attack.
“If Konate plays, it might be tight, Man City win 2-0. If Konate doesn’t play and he has to play Milner right back and Gomez, then it could be a very long day, it could be four or five,” Agbonlahor said on TalkSPORT.
“Without Konate there you have to look at the defence. You might have Milner, who I love, Gomez who’s been in awful form, look how he did against Napoli. If you’re Haaland you’re licking your lips. If Haaland can take Van Dijk out of it then the likes of Foden, Grealish, Mahrez, these players. Look at what I’m explaining, when you’ve got no Konate, no Matip back there. Gomez, I think he brought himself off (at Napoli) he was that bad.”
TBR’s View: Konate Injury Massive For Liverpool
Agbonlahor can divide opinion at times with his comments but he is spot on here. The loss of Konate to the Liverpool defence will be massive, leaving Van Dijk exposed against Haaland and co.
If Konate is indeed out, then City will be buoyed by that news and as Agbonlahor says, Haaland and others will be relishing getting at that back four.
This feels like a massive game for Liverpool today and with Konate out, it’s not unrealistic to suggest they could be hammered.
