TalkSPORT pundit suggests Lampard for Tottenham
Trevor Sinclair has told TalkSPORT (Friday, 8.40AM) that he feels Tottenham Hotspur should consider hiring Frank Lampard as manager. Lampard has been without a job since he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea. Sinclair reckons that despite the rivalry, Spurs should look at Lampard.
Lampard, 43, took charge of Chelsea for 18 months – after impressing in his first spell as gaffer with Derby County. He guided Derby into the play-off final and while the Rams lost, he got the Chelsea job. Impressing in his first season, he overaw Chelsea finish in the top four – with a transfer embargo.
But after an influx of new additions last summer, the pressure was on Lampard to make them gel. He failed to do that. Tuchel came in and guided Chelsea into the top four and to the Champions League trophy. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain without a manager. Sinclair put two and two together.
“I don’t think he has been mentioned much, but Frank Lampard,” Sinclair claimed. “He’s a London lad, he didn’t do much wrong with Chelsea. He has connections with Spurs through Jamie and Harry [Redknapp]. It is a huge club. The managers being linked have not been good enough.”
Continuing on the subject at 9.30AM, Sinclair said: “I think he’s a good fit. If Rafa [Benitez] can go to Everton, why can’t Lampard go to Tottenham. An up-and-coming manager that is hungry, he will want to go to Tottenham. He will want to prove what he has got in his locker.”
Tottenham manager news: Why Lampard will not join Tottenham – despite Sinclair claim
Firstly, Lampard is a Chelsea boy – having come through the ranks at West Ham. Other than Arsenal, it is fair to say that Chelsea and the Hammers are Spurs two next biggest rivals. While Spurs had Jose Mourinho and went for Antonio Conte – going straight from Chelsea to Spurs is different.
Not only that, but Lampard is a Chelsea legend – as a player, too. That has to deter Spurs. But also, because Lampard struggled towards the end. He is inexperienced, and Levy is clearly looking for someone with a bit more on their CV. Lampard would be a last resort for Spurs.
