‘Talented player’: Roy Keane says 24-year-old who’s tempted to join Newcastle United has brilliant potential

Roy Keane told ITV that Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has brilliant potential yesterday, after claims he is tempted to join Newcastle United

Newcastle have got off to a flying start this season and sit in third place in the Premier League.

The Magpies completed smart business over the summer as they brought in the likes of Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Alexander Isak.

One player that seemingly got away was Pulisic, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Newcastle were desperate to sign the 24-year-old

There could still be hope for Eddie Howe’s men though as journalist Ben Jacobs claimed last month that a move to Newcastle would be ‘tempting’ for Pulisic.

The winger was in action for USA last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Wales. And Keane was full of praise for the Chelsea winger and feels he has got the potential to become a top player.

Keane says Pulisic has brilliant potential

Speaking on ITV after yesterday’s clash between Wales and USA, Keane feels Pulisic has been unlucky in terms of injuries during his time at Stamford Bridge.

“He’s obviously got his injury problems. He’s obviously a talented player, he’s got a good record at international level,” he said.

“So it will be interesting to see how he does in the tournament because he’s got that potential but we need to see more of it. He needs more luck with the injuries but he’s obviously a talented boy.”

Pulisic set-up Timothy Weah for for USA’s opener yesterday but has been limited in terms of his game time at Chelsea this season.

The talented winger will undoubtedly improve as the tournament goes on and he gets some more minutes under his belt.

Howe was on the lookout for attacking reinforcements over the summer and it seems that he was keen to bring Pulisic to St James’ Park.

With the American being limited to mainly substitute appearances at Chelsea this season, it could be that he will be eager to seek a move away from west London for regular game time.

He would be an astute signing for Newcastle, if they can land him for a reasonable price. Pulisic displayed brilliant potential during his time at Borussia Dortmund but it just hasn’t quite worked out for him at Chelsea.
