Surprise Champions League club made late enquiry to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea after Arsenal return

Raheem Sterling’s footballing career is currently stuck in limbo, as he appears to be firmly out of Chelsea’s plans for the future.

The winger was once performing at the top level in the Premier League, winning the league title several times in his stint with Manchester City.

Since Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022, however, there have been some difficulties in reaching his peak once again.

The 30-year-old seemingly fell out of favour, which then led to Sterling joining Arsenal last season on loan.

While he brought some leadership and experience to the wider group, his impact on the pitch wasn’t really felt, as he returned to West London.

After a seemingly quiet transfer window for the England international, a stay with Chelsea seemed to be on the cards.

Since failing to make that move away, it has been revealed that there was one proposition on the table that the winger didn’t take up.

Bayern Munich wanted Raheem Sterling transfer in potential Vincent Kompany reunion

Despite his struggles for Chelsea and Arsenal, Raheem Sterling was still seemingly a man in demand over the summer.

One surprise option that was on the cards was a switch to Bayern Munich.

According to The Athletic, the Bundesliga outfit made an attempt to convince Sterling that he should join the club.

The possible switch was suggested during Bayern Munich’s talks to sign Nicolas Jackson, which was a saga with plenty of twists and turns.

It could have seen Vincent Kompany reunite with Sterling, as the pair played alongside each other for many years at Manchester City.

However, it’s claimed that Sterling didn’t feel totally convinced about making the move to Germany, due to his family, while there was no guarantee surrounding his playing time.

Instead, Sterling remains training at Chelsea until the next opportunity arises, which could come in January.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich could swoop back in during that time, especially with the allure of Champions League football and the opportunity to win more trophies.

Raheem Sterling and Vincent Kompany’s joint-career statistics

Vincent Kompany recently praised Raheem Sterling, when speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s clash with Chelsea, as he reflected on their time together at Man City.

It was a successful stint as well, with the pair playing 68 times while both on the pitch.

Racking up over 4,000 minutes, 50 wins and plenty of trophies, the duo were part of one of the best Premier League teams ever seen.

It’s no wonder that Kompany would want to combine with Sterling again, given that history.

However, it remains to be seen if the opportunity to cross paths will happen again.
