‘Superb’ player would now happily leave Tottenham to go and join Jose Mourinho at Roma

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier would gladly welcome a reunion with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma in the January transfer window.

The Englishman is one of Spurs’ longest-serving players, but he’s yet to play a minute this season. It’s clear he has no place at Tottenham anymore, and a move away in January makes a lot of sense. A report now says he’d love to join Roma.

Tottenham’s Eric Dier would be happy to join Jose Mourinho at AS Roma

Eric Dier has been a hugely important player for every manager at Tottenham right up until Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club.

The 29-year-old has not played a single minute of football for Spurs this season. He hasn’t even made the squad in five of Tottenham’s first 10 Premier League games.

It’s no secret at this point that Postecoglou doesn’t fancy him, and with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven performing brilliantly, there’s just no way back for Dier.

A move away in January is the best thing for all parties, and luckily for Dier, a manager who trusted him in the past wants to sign him.

Roma Giallorossa reveal this week that Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new defender in January after an injury to Chris Smalling, and Dier is on his list.

The report also claims that the Tottenham defender would ‘gladly embrace’ the chance to work with Mourinho again in January.

Spurs should let Dier join Roma

Tottenham have no reason to keep Eric Dier at the club beyond the January transfer window.

The Englishman, hailed as ‘superb‘ by Graham Roberts on Twitter, is clearly not going to play under Ange Postecoglou, and the best thing would be to move on, preferably to a club outside the Premier League – just so that he doesn’t come back to haunt them.

Dier would be great in the Serie A. The pace of the game in Italy would really suit him, and under Mourinho, who trusted and used him 57 times at Tottenham, he could enjoy his football again.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Dier in January, but we think a move to Roma makes perfect sense for all parties involved.
