Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp looked on in delight as Darwin Nunez headed home the winner at Nottingham Forest today.

The German was just as over the moon as everyone else as the Liverpool bench and away end erupted into scenes similar to that in the cup final last weekend.

Nunez headed home in the 99th minute after a superb piece of play from Alexis Mac Allister kept the ball alive and Nunez simply did the rest.

And speaking after the game about the last minute winner, Liverpool boss Klopp admitted that he was so impressed with how calm Mac Allister had managed to keep himself in such a situation.

“In the last second the guy who looks like a former Liverpool player thought I’ll score a goal and decide the game. The goal was set up by a guy who was the calmest on the whole pitch. I saw it only live but I’ll never forget it. He was calm. He chips the ball there. Super assist and super important goal. If you’d told me 12 days ago we would win all four games I would have said no chance, it was impossible. In the circumstances winning the games is ridiculous,” Klopp said (BBC).

Mac Allister is showing his worth now for Liverpool

At the start of the season, there were some inside Anfield who doubted why Liverpool had parted ways with £35m to sign the midfielder.

However, over the course of the season, Mac Allister has really come into his own and shown the moments of quality that got him into the Argentina squad in Qatar.

This was much more than just a simple hopeful ball into the box today. With so much at stake and the pressure involved, Mac Allister needed to keep his calm and produce quality when it mattered.

He did just that, and while Darwin Nunez will get the plaudits, the assist from Mac Allister has rightly been recognised by Klopp.
