According to a report from the Daily Mail today, new Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is determined to sign Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks during the January window.
Howe is expected to be backed with funds from PIF during January and his intention is to bring in players who can help fight against relegation. That means bringing in players with Premier League experience, and Winks certainly has that.
The Mail reports that Winks is one of the top names on Howe’s wanted list at Newcastle. It’s not the first time the England international has been mentioned, either.

Back in the summer, Winks was linked with a move to St James’ Park while Steve Bruce was still in charge. However, the midfielder stayed in North London but as has been the case in recent times, has struggled for minutes.
Despite Antonio Conte reintroducing him back into the fold, it is believed Winks is among the Spurs players who could leave in January.
TBR’s View: Harry Winks fits profile for Newcastle but must rediscover best form
Winks is obviously a good football. You don’t get 10 caps for England without having something about you. But the fact is that he hasn’t performed for Tottenham consistently for a good while.
Granted, he might not have had too many chances. But even when he has played, he’s not exactly took games and ran them from midfield.
A fit and firing Harry Winks would probably be a smart enough addition for Newcastle. But he on the flipside, he also isn’t the sort of all-action midfielder who is going to lift the crowd.
Having said that, if Howe could sign Winks and some others, then it could be a good piece of business. Ultimately, he’s not going to be a regular for Tottenham and looking at reports, Spurs want new midfielders anyway.
