‘Class’, ‘That’s destined to be an L’: Some Sunderland fans react to ‘messy’ Thursday announcement

Some Sunderland fans were reacting after the club’s opening fixtures of the new season emerged.

The Black Cats open the season at home to Wigan Athletic on the seventh of August. Following their clash with the Latics, Sunderland face Milton Keynes, Burton Albion and AFC Wimbledon in their opening four games. They conclude their League One campaign away to Morecambe.

Lee Johnson’s side will be looking for promotion back to the Championship after last season’s failures. The Wearside outfit lost to Lincoln City in the play-off semi-finals back in May, sending them to a third season in League One.

TBR View: Sunderland handed good start after fixtures for new season are released

The Stadium of Light outfit couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the brand new campaign. Each of their opening four opponents finished in the bottom-half last campaign.

Johnson’s side will be looking for a repeat of last year, where they went unbeaten in each of their opening six league games.

After last term’s failures, Sunderland will be hoping for a better outcome next year. Promotion from League One is paramount for a club of Sunderland’s size.
