'I'm crying', 'gutted': Some Sunderland fans react after hearing who's leaving SoL
A number of Sunderland fans have bemoaned the news that Chris Maguire will be leaving the Stadium of Light this summer.
In wake of Sunderland’s failure to seal promotion out of League One, the Black Cats will let seven senior players go when their contracts expire.
Maguire, who has been at Sunderland since 2018, will bid farewell to the Stadium of Light.
Grant Leadbitter, Callum McFadzean, Conor McLaughlin, Josh Scowen and Remi Matthews will also leave next month.
Maguire joined Sunderland in 2018 and made 124 appearances for the Black Cats, registering 28 goals and 26 assists.
This season, he made 42 appearances, scoring nine goals and claiming seven assists.
Sunderland fans have expressed differing opinions on the retained list, but many are gutted that Maguire is leaving.
Sunderland reached the playoffs this season but lost to Lincoln City in the semi-finals.
The Black Cats are looking to offer Denver Hume, Luke O’Nien and Aiden McGeady new contracts at the Stadium of Light.
However, all three are apparently in demand from other clubs, according to the Northern Echo.
