Summerville becomes Leeds' new number 10 after signing new deal

Leeds United fans now appear to know who their new number 10 is, with Crysencio Summerville the man to hold the jersey vacated by Raphinha in a video posted on LUTV.

A couple of Leeds favourites have most recently worn that particular number. Obviously, it was the Brazilian who shone with that jersey last season.

And before that, Gjanni Alioski became a cult-hero during his time at Elland Road.

Clearly, the number 10 shirt has huge significance at most clubs. If it is vacant, fans tend to dream of the new signing who could potentially wear it next.

Often, it will be worn by the team’s most creative player. And that certainly was the case for Leeds last season with Raphinha taking it upon Alioski’s departure.

But perhaps the new owner of that particular number will come as a surprise to supporters. Leeds posted a video on LUTV following the news that Summerville has joined Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt and signed a new long-term deal at Elland Road.

And in the video, Summerville can be seen holding the number 10 shirt alongside Victor Orta.

Summerville is Leeds’ new number 10

It is a ballsy play from Summerville. Not only is he the new number 10, but he has also taken Raphinha’s number. That surely raises the significance of the decision.

The winger clearly has a lot of belief in his ability. And he certainly has the potential to be an ‘unbelievable‘ player. But he has not been a first-team regular at Elland Road by any means.

In fact, he potentially faces a tough task trying to really force his way into Jesse Marsch’s plans for this coming season.

Some may be adamant that it really does not matter at all. And that is partially true.

But it does feel like a brave decision from the 20-year-old.
