Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin was named in Spain’s starting XI for the nation’s friendly draw with the Netherlands last night.

The 25-year-old Gunners ace earned himself his first recall to La Roja since 2016, and played the full 90 minutes against their fellow 2010 World Cup finalists.

While Bellerin has been an ever-present for Arsenal in recent years – 215 competitive appearances and counting – he was only making his fourth appearance for Spain.

The £110,000-a-week ace was denied an assist when Alvaro Morata was unable to finish a chance set up for him superbly well after a darting run forward.

While a number of Arsenal fans watching the game were pleased with Bellerin’s display, Spanish outlet El Desmarque was considerably more critical.

They rated him 4/10 and wrote: “The Arsenal full-back suffered at times when dealing with an attacker of Memphis Depay’s calibre.”

Enrique fielded a largely experimental line-up for the friendly, with Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon earning his debut and a number of substitutes brought on during the game.

Sergio Canales gave Spain the lead in the 18th minute but Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek struck a 47th-minute equaliser.

TBR View:

El Desmarque must be a fairly strict marker, given Bellerin’s display seemed decent enough and saw plenty of Arsenal fans happy with what they saw.

The Gunners man will surely be happy with his performance, as well as finally winning his place back in the Spain team.

Nations League action follows for La Roja, with Switzerland and Germany over the coming days, and Bellerin will surely hope to retain his spot in the XI.
