Ange Postecoglou has tipped Pape Matar Sarr for a bright future ahead at Tottenham Hotspur.

Pape Matar Sarr returned to the starting XI yesterday as Tottenham picked up a statement 4-0 win over Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old had been struggling with a back issue, which ultimately led to him missing out on the starting line-up in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Sarr made quite the impact on his return to the side as he provided an ‘unbelievable’ assist for James Maddison’s opener.

It set Spurs on their way in the second half, with Brennan Johnson, Heung-min Son and Timo Werner getting in on the act.

Sarr got 70 minutes under his belt before being replaced by Rodrigo Bentancur and it’s fair to say the midfielder impressed his boss Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou says Sarr has huge potential

Speaking to Spurs Play, Postecoglou was asked about Sarr’s tireless display in the middle of the park.

“Yeah, he was brilliant,” the Tottenham boss said. “His energy and his quality, it was a great ball into Maddison for our goal and it was an important goal. He always gives everything.

“I thought he was unlucky with the yellow card, to be honest. He’s handled himself well.

“For a young man, he’s very mature and that’s the beauty of guys like that and we’ve got a few of them in our team, is that they’ve got such a high ceiling in terms of the kind of footballers they can be.”

Sarr has quickly become one of Tottenham’s most important players this season.

Many Tottenham fans were excited by the prospect of a midfield three consisting of Yves Bissouma, Maddison and Bentancur.

But Sarr has proven he is deserving of a place in midfield, particularly with Bentancur and Bissouma struggling for form of late.

Spurs snapped Sarr up for just £15 million back in the summer of 2021 and it’s proving to be an inspired piece of business from the north Londoners.

The best is yet to come from the Senegal international and Tottenham seem to have snapped up a future star.
