Stuart Pearce believes Ange Postecoglou could look at selling Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.

Tottenham have enjoyed a positive start to life under Ange Postecoglou as they currently make up the top four, sitting just four points behind league leaders Arsenal.

The Aussie boss has completely transformed Spurs into a front-foot, attacking team.

It’s fair to say the drastic change in style has led to some players who were key under former managers falling out of favour this term.

One man who has struggled for minutes this season is Eric Dier, with the Englishman making just three appearances in the Premier League.

Dier has managed just one start in the league this season, with two of his appearances coming from the bench. It’s led to suggestions the 29-year-old could be on the move next month and the likes of Napoli are said to be keen

Now, Stuart Pearce has stated that he believes Postecoglou may have already made his mind up on Dier’s future.

Pearce says Postecoglou could sell Dier

Speaking to Express Sport, Pearce feels Dier could head out the door at Tottenham soon.

“If you’re not a first-team starter at his age, there’s every chance [he could leave],” the English football legend said.

“It might well have made Ange’s mind up that he’s going to move him on. He’s had a look at him over the last few months, and the way Tottenham play with a high-court press, which leaves them very exposed at the back, Van de Ven showed that he can play in that role because of his pace.

“The players that do actually play there will have to be confident of playing one-on-one or two-on-two. He’s got to be confident that he’s got two mobile players at the heart of that back line who are going to be able to handle that full-court press and the exposure that throws up.

“Eric Dier doesn’t owe Tottenham anything so he might view this as a good time to move on.”

Dier made a rare appearance in the league on Saturday as he came off the bench to replace the injured Cristian Romero in the 2-1 win over Everton.

Romero was forced off after feeling tightness in his hamstring but is likely to be available for Brighton on Thursday.

It’s no secret that Spurs are in the market for a new centre-back in January following Micky van de Ven’s injury.

It will be intriguing to see if Dier sticks around beyond the January window, with the £85,000-a-week defender’s contract set to run until the summer.
