Italian champions Napoli are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier in the January transfer window.
Spurs are expected to be active next month. A new central defender is a priority, but one of their own centre-backs will likely leave the club as well – Dier. Napoli are the latest team to join the race to sign the Tottenham man.

Napoli want to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham
Eric Dier was one of Tottenham’s most important players for years, but everything changed once Ange Postecoglou arrived in the summer.
It has been clear since the start of the season that the Spurs boss does not fancy Dier. The Englishman is surplus to requirements having played less than 150 minutes of football in all competitions this season.
Full-backs like Emerson Royal and Ben Davies have been preferred to Dier in the heart of Tottenham’s defence, which is why a move away in January is the best thing for all parties involved.
Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have been linked with a move to sign Dier, while Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also said to be interested.
Now, Il Mattino claim that Serie A champions Napoli have added Dier to their shortlist ahead of the January transfer window.
The outlet claims Napoli want to sign him on loan, but that seems unlikely as Dier’s current contract at Tottenham expires next summer.

Dier is too slow for Ange Postecoglou’s system
Eric Dier had his best years at Tottenham under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who both preferred to sit deep and invite pressure.
Ange Postecoglou’s philosophy is completely different. The Aussie plays a high line every game, and if his defenders don’t possess good recovery pace, Spurs will be exposed.
“The reason Eric Dier isn’t playing at centre-back is because he can’t run, he doesn’t have pace,” said Chris Sutton last month while talking about the £85,000-a-week (Spotrac) Englishman’s situation.
All signs point towards an exit in the January transfer window, and a move away is the best option for all parties involved.
