Stan Collymore slams ‘laughable’ decision involving Michael Carrick and Unai Emery

The Premier League manager of the season nominees are in for the 2025/26 campaign and Stan Collymore has had a big rant about Unai Emery’s omission.

Emery has guided Villa into the top five once again this season while also getting his team into the Europa League final as well.

The former Arsenal coach has been a sensation at Villa Park but in an unusual move from the powers that be, he’s not on the list of nominations for manager of the season.

And according to Villa legend Stan Collymore, it absolutely stinks.

Collymore is never shy of an opinion on the big matters and he’s particularly defensive of Villa.

Indeed, taking to his social media account earlier today, Collymore picked out Michael Carrick being on the list over Emery, and labelled the call as ‘laughable’.

“Manager of the Season. Manage 15 games at a Manchester United that’s spent another trillion ,come on in, your name’s on the list. Manage 3 seasons at Villa, 3 semi finals, 1 final, 2 Champions League qualifications using half a dozen players who played in the Championship, you can’t come in.

“A decision so laughable that when someday Unai is nominated, I hope he tells them to f— o–. A mockery of what achievement versus caretaking is.”

Collymore makes a valid point

Sometimes, we see opinions or rants from ex players and they make little to no sense.

However, this one from Collymore has every right to be taken seriously.

He is spot on in picking out Carrick being selected over Emery. Sure, the United boss has done well while taking the reins and he’s deserving of being given the manager’s job full-time.

But that is less than half a season’s work and when you look at what Emery has once again achieved with Villa, it is quite remarkable.

For Emery to not even be nominated is baffling. Still, the Villa boss will not really care. He has a chance to win yet another trophy in his career and bring European glory back to Villa Park for the first time in decades.
