Jamie Carragher has made a fair few comments about Man United and their players in recent years but one seems to have come back to bite him.

Carragher is never shy of an opinion and when it comes to United, he rarely backs down in an argument.

However, this season, the former Liverpool man has been forced to eat his words somewhat after United midfielder Casemiro found a new lease of life under Michael Carrick.

Casemiro is still set to leave United but after Carragher’s ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’ comment last year, he has admitted the Brazilian will be a legend.

Nevertheless, Carragher insists United will not make the same mistake again.

Jamie Carragher says Man United will never sign a player like Casemiro again

Casemiro has had a brilliant season at Old Trafford. There is no doubt that he has found fresh fitness and form and he’ll have no issue in finding a club this summer.

However, while Carragher has praised Casemiro’s career overall, he’s suggested that United won’t ever be paying big money for an ageing player like him again.

“Casemiro is and will always be a Champions League and La Liga legend. When departing Old Trafford, he deserves the ovation he receives for a magnificent career,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.

“But when the dust settles, no amount of rewriting history will change this fact: the next time a player of Casemiro’s age and status is available for the same salary and transfer fee, United will learn from experience and say, “thanks, but no thanks”.

As we know, United paid around £70m to sign the midfielder and put him on a huge contract north of £300-a-week.

Under Erik ten Hag, Casemiro never got anywhere near the heights he had shown at Real Madrid and for most United fans, his signing was seen as a flop.

Still, there has been some redemption this season and as Carragher says, he will rightly get a good reception.

However, while that will be well-deserved, Carragher is right in that this signing was a mistake overall.
