RB Leipzig want to hand Tottenham Hotspur target Josko Gvardiol a new contract, but the deal would include a release clause that would become active next summer, according to journalist Christian Falk on Twitter.

Gvardiol is considered one of the most highly-rated prospects in Europe right now. And the centre-back has a host of admirers.

It appears that Manchester City have made the biggest play for the Croatia international. Reports this week claimed that they had had a £67.5 million bid for the 20-year-old rejected.

Meanwhile, Falk reported that Chelsea also want the defender. But the first English side to be strongly linked with Gvardiol in this window was probably Tottenham.

In fact, reports suggested that he was the name at the top of Antonio Conte’s wishlist for the centre-back spot. Meanwhile, Arsenal are also reportedly admirers of the youngster.

Clearly, it is going to take a huge offer to lure Gvardiol away. And with that, Leipzig hope to agree a new contract with him. However, that new deal will leave the door open for a move.

Falk reported on Twitter that the Bundesliga side are ready to insert a release clause in his contract would become active next year…

Gvardiol deal would include a release clause

Leipzig will want that release clause to be as high as possible. He is an ‘amazing‘ talent with a massive future ahead.

But they also need to make sure that it is a figure Gvardiol is happy with. And if he anticipates wanting to leave next year, he will not want Leipzig to price him out of a move.

Tottenham have signed Clement Lenglet on loan. So their centre-back situation, in particular, may well be something that needs addressing again next year.

Obviously, there will be a lot of competition. But Spurs may feel that next summer may be the perfect time to make their move for Gvardiol if he does indeed sign a new deal.
