Tottenham Hotspur could do with bolstering their left flank in the January transfer window following injuries to Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic.
Although Solomon is expected to be back “soon”, according to journalist Paul O’Keefe, Perisic has likely played his last game for Tottenham.
The 34-year-old, whose Spurs contract expires at the end of the season, is currently out with an ACL injury.
“He’s unlikely to play for us again,” Ange Postecoglou told the Evening Standard this week ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Burnley.
With that in mind, a report was doing the rounds a few weeks ago suggesting that Spurs would be presented with the opportunity to sign a “Messi-esque” left-footer.

In December, Italian journalist Fabio Santini told TV Play that Juventus are actively looking to sell Matias Soule to the likes of Tottenham in 2024.
“They (Juve) would like to sell Soule for €20-25m (£17-21m) to Crystal Palace or Tottenham,” said Santini.
Tottenham linked with ‘one of the best players in all of Serie A’
Soule, who is currently impressing on loan at Frosinone, certainly fits the Spurs profile.
He’s just 20 years old, very talented, has a high ceiling, and has already proven himself at the highest level.
A few months ago, Football Transfers described him as “one of the best players in all of Serie A in 2023-24” in wake of his heroics for Frosinone.
Soule, who has already been called up to the Argentina senior team, has registered seven goals and one assist from just 13 Italian top-flight outings.
Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout previously described him as a ‘Messi-esque’ talent who ‘can really produce magic’.
If Tottenham get the opportunity to sign Soule, they should take it up. After all, they’ve had a lot of joy with players from Juve (indeed, from Serie A overall) in recent years.
